Chicago Vacation/Haul

Hi guys,

Today’s the last day of spring break for me πŸ˜₯ My family and I (along with some family friends) went to Chicago/Evanston for a few days to shop and visit a college I was accepted to.

Here’s a couple pics of me in Chinatown:

Pig Statue

Attempting to "squeeze" the tower :)

But yeah, they had tons of little stores with all sorts of souvenirs and Chinese cultural items. I got a few things for friends, but I’m not going to show them b/c they may read this and it’ll ruin the surprise πŸ™‚

They had this super awesome Kpop store there that we went into. IT. WAS. AMAZING. There were posters of SHINee and Super Junior and F.T. Island and Big Bang and all those bands plastered all over the place and SO MANY kpop things. They wouldn’t let me take pictures inside though (I think so that I wouldn’t be able to just take pics of the posters instead of buying them). I didn’t buy anything either b/c it was all ridiculously overpriced. But yeah, the store made me happy πŸ™‚Β I did get a few other things while in Chinatown though.

I’ve been kinda obsessed with sheet masks recently, so I got these from MJ Care:

Sheet Masks!!

And these asian BiorΓ© pore strips:

And two pashmina scarves:

Light Lavender

Dark Pink/Blue

That was about it for the first day.

On the second day, we went to Shedd Aquarium:

Shedd

It was so large and pretty and right next to the shore. There was a beautiful view of Chicago’s skyline and of course, we took pictures:

My family :) DSCN0588

We dropped by Millenium Park and took some touristy photos next to the Cloud Gate (I think that’s what it’s called…)

And then we went to the Magnificent Mile, which of course means…more shopping

There was a FREAKING HUGE Forever 21 there. Actually, all the stores were freakishly big. But anyways, I managed to actually get through all of it! I only got one thing though, lol:

Beige with black polka-dots, cute bow cutouts in back

Beige with black polka-dots, cute bow cutouts in back

I love the back of this shirt, which has black bows going across. You can kinda see some of it in the picture.

We also went to H&M, which happened to be 3 stories tall….and I got 2 things there:

Lacy black t-shirt

Lacy black t-shirt

Cream sweater

My sister wanted to go to the American Girl Place, so we dropped by and man o man, it was wayyy over the top. I mean, people were paying $12 for their dolls to get a facial done. If you ask me, that’s a total waste of money. But then again, I guess I would love it if I was younger. My sister got a little stuffed husky named Pepper and a pet carrier.

After we left there, it was late afternoon and I was pretty exhausted. We decided that the last store we’d go to would be Nordstrom Rack. There, I got a pair of shoes:

Black Converse

Black Converse

I’ve never owned any Converse shoes before, so I’m super excited to wear these.

So that was about it for the second day. We went to Chinatown to eat dinner and then back to our hotel.

The third day was kinda boring. We went on a campus tour of Northwestern University in the morning and then we went to Chinatown to eat lunch and buy groceries. Then we drove home.

So that was my little Chicago “adventure.” I did get some nice stuff that I’m excited to use/wear and it was really fun. The sad part is that it’s over πŸ˜₯

But that’s ok, only 6 weeks left until the end of school (for us seniors that is…hehe)

XOXO,

Rosa

Liebster Award :D

Hi guys,

So I guess my one-post-every-2-to-3-days thing kinda failed. But that’s ok because I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award by daily charme πŸ™‚

I’m not quite familiar with what this award is, but I’m pretty sure it’s to create a community of bloggers that maybe aren’t that well known and try to connect all of us together.

The rules:

-the recipient has to post 11 fun facts about themselves

-the recipient must also answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated him/her

-the recipient must give the award to 11 other bloggers w/ less than 200 followers and post 11 questions for them to answer

-the 11 newly nominated recipients must be told that they’ve been nominated, and they in turn have to continue this “chain”

Ok, here’re my 11 fun facts:

1. I hate cheese. But I tolerate it on some things. For example, I can eat pizza. But I can’t eat cheeseburgers.

2. I was born left-handed but my mom didn’t want me to write w/ my left hand, so she forced me to use my right. Because of that, I do different things with different hands. I write w/ my right and eat w/ my left, etc.

3. My biggest fear are needles. Whenever I have to get a shot, I have a mini panic attack and have to hold my mom’s hand.

4. I was born in Greenville, South Carolina. We moved around a ton when I was younger, but we’ve lived in Michigan for close to 12 years now (we’ve moved w/in Michigan though).

5. I’m 5’2”, so I’m pretty short. Finding pants that fit can sometimes be a challenge.

6. I drive a 2013 Ford Focus. It’s bright red and I love it.

7. My nails point up instead of curving in. It can be a huge pain to paint my toenails b/c I always end up w/ more polish on my skin than my nail.

8. I have a sister named Lucy. She’s 11 and almost as tall as me.

9. I’ve been getting really into cardio hip hop lately. I look extremely dumb when I do it, but it’s super fun. I’m currently trying to convince some of my friends to join a Zumba class with me.

10. I have a ring that I wear almost all the time. My mom bought it for me from Carson’s. It’s 14 or 18 (can’t remember) carat gold and sterling silver with a heart formed from diamonds. I rarely ever leave the house without it.

11. Blood makes me queasy. Whenever I think about all the veins and blood running through me, I get grossed out and my hand muscles seem to weaken so that I can’t write anything.

Now onto the questions from daily charme:

1. What’s your favorite nail polish brand?

I love Revlon polishes. I find that their brushes are thin enough that I can really get near my cuticle and the polish dries super fast too πŸ™‚

2. Who is your favorite nail polish blogger?

I wouldn’t say I have a favorite blogger. I like any blogs that show pretty nails and pictures.

3. How many bottles of nail polish do you own?

75ish I think? I have counted in a while lol

4. What’s your favorite nail polish color?

Pink is my favorite color, although I find that I don’t wear in on my nails that much. I mostly wear darker colors.

5. What nail trend are you not a fan of?

I don’t like magnetic polish. It’s just annoying to me for some reason. Plus, it’s been out for so long that it’s kinda lost its “newness.”

6. What nails are you wearing right now?

I have on a holographic gold polish from Milani. It’s the color 3D, super pretty!

7. No question?? 😦

8. What’s your most expensive nail polish? Do you think it’s worth the money?

Let’s see….my most expensive polish would probably be a polish I got from Urban Outfitters (it was $10). I find that I don’t spend much money on individual polishes and tend to focus more on buying as many as I can for as little as I can. I don’t think there’s a HUGE difference in different brands, especially b/c I do my nails so often that the wearing power of a polish isn’t a huge deal for me.

9. How often do you do your nails?

It depends on how busy I get, but on average, maybe every 2-3 days?

10. What nail designs would you like to see in our Etsy shop?

I’d like so see from fruit nails or spring themed ones πŸ™‚ They’re always so cute and nice to see on people.

11. What’s your favorite food? Have you ever painted it on your nails?

I love noodles, but I’ve never painted them on my nails before. The only food item I have done would probably be strawberries.

πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

2. Do you have a holy grail beauty item?

3. What’re you good at?

4. What’re you not to good at?

5. How much makeup/nail polish do you own and do you regularly use all of it?

6. What got you started in blogging?

7. How often do you do your nails?

8. And makeup/beauty tips to share with the rest of the world?

9. Do you have any pets?

10. Beauty trends you wish were never started?

11. Any other random facts?? o.O

Hi Guys,

Here’s another nails of the day! I painted my nails a really dark and almost metallic-y blue. It’s from the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line and the color is Co-Bolt Blue

Co-Bolt Blue by Sally Hansen

Co-Bolt Blue by Sally Hansen

The brush on this polish is quite large, the idea being that you can paint your nails faster since the brush’ll cover a larger area of your nail at once. The polish does dry pretty fast, but I really don’t like the large brush. I find that it’s hard to get really close to my cuticle without making a mess. I guess it’s a personal preference thing though. So if you like big brushes, kudos to you!

Until next time,

Rosa

Hi Guys! Happy Saturday πŸ˜€

This past week has been super stressful in terms of school. I’ve had so much homework and so many quizzes/tests to study for. But, it’s over now πŸ™‚

I painted my nails about an hour ago this super bright almost neon pink.

Uh, As If! by Spoiled by Wet n' Wild

Uh, As If! by Spoiled by Wet n’ Wild

It’s called “Uh, As If!” and it’s part of the Spoiled line that’s by Wet n’ Wild. I love how the name has some attitude in it. And color is actually very very opaque. I used two coats in the above picture, but if you’re in a hurry, one thicker coat should be fine. I will say though, that the color is quite matte. I don’t know if you can tell from the picture or not, but it looks as if I put a matte topcoat on my nails when I really don’t have anything on top of the color!

Until later,

Rosa

It’s pi day!!

I did these nails last night but I was too sleepy to post a picture of them, so I’m doing it today.

I’m wearing the color Mischievous by Revlon. Revlon is actually my favorite brand of polish; I feel like their polishes tend to be more watery and their brushes are smaller. My nails (and my hands) are super small, so it’s a lot easier to pain with a smaller brush. Plus, the watery formula makes drying time a lot faster.

Here’s a picture of my nails:

Little Haul :D

Hi Guys,

I went shopping with my family over the weekend, and I thought I’d share some of the things that I got.

First, we dropped by Bed Bath and Beyond and I got this Suave dry shampoo:

Suave Keratin Infused Dry Shampoo

Suave Keratin Infused Dry Shampoo

It’s supposedly infused with keratin to give strength and shine. I have pretty oily hair, so we’ll see how this works out. I’ve read lots of good reviews on it though, so I’m excited to try it.

We also went to Marshall’s and I got this ruffled cami from American Eagle:

It cinches at the waist, which gives some shape πŸ˜€

My mom is absolutely obsessed with Loft (I think it’s associated with Ann Taylor, but I’m not sure). Ironically, I ended up getting a pair of tan/nude ballet flats while my mom didn’t see anything she liked. The flats are surprisingly really comfy and ideal for spring time.

My sister’s in 5th grade, so she’s starting to get into the whole Aeropostale/Abercrombie middle-school fashion. So, we went to Aeropostale b/c my sister wanted to check out their t-shirts.

I’m not really into all the bright, Aeropostale-labeled clothing that they have, but they were having a super massive sale so I got a couple things.

I got this pretty thick beige cami with some lace trimmings on the top:

I think it’s be really good for layering underneath a cardigan or sweater or something of that sort.

Here’s a shirt that I got:

I find that I have a somewhat tendency to go towards stuff that’s pink or has stripes. In this case, this shirt has both. So obviously I gravitated towards it!

I also got this patterned dress with some lace detailing at the top from Aero. I think it’d look cute with a jean jacket or something πŸ˜€

As our last stop, we went to American Eagle. And I got the thing that I’m the most excited about. I’ve been kinda obsessed with scarves lately, so of course, I went to the scarf section. And…..I got this:

It has tassles and it’s so adorable! They were having a buy 1 get one 50% off sale, so my mom got the same one except in gray:

The tassels go all the way around the edges of the scarf, but you can’t see them on the right hand side in this picture b/c I laid it down w/o realizing that the tassels were underneath the fabric.Β They’re square scarves, which I really like since there’s so many different ways of wearing them!

Here’s a picture of one of my favorite ways:

It reminds me of the old west and cowboys and stuff πŸ˜€ hehe

Here’s a quick nails of the day for you guys.

I decided to go w/ a fun coral color since spring is almost here. There’s still snow outside, but I have hope that it’ll be gone soon!

The color I went with is called Tropicalia and it’s from the Wet n’ Wild MegaLast line. I really like these polishes and for the price ($1.99), they’re definitely worth a second look!

Isn’t it so pretty?

NOTD 3/4/13

Hey Guys,

I’m back with a nails of the day post!

Today I’m wearing this super shimmery and almost metallic-y purple color. It’s from the Wet n’ Wild Fastdry line and it’s called Buffy the Violet Slayer. It’s cute b/c all the polishes in this line are named after TV shows. I have a red color that’s called “Everybody Loved Redmond” and an glitter color called, “Party of Five Glitters.”

Well, the top coat is just called “Clear Coat.” I know, totally creative title right? I mean, if you’re going through all the trouble to name all the colors after TV shows, why leave the top coat as “Clear Coat”? Just doesn’t make sense to me….oh well.

These polishes really do dry quite quickly. The only bad parts about them is the brush. It’s not a very soft brush, kinda plastic and hard. I think that since it’s a fast dry, the idea is to be able to paint and go out the door in five seconds, so the company made the brushes extra big so that it takes less time to coat the entire nail. The clumsiness of the brush though, just made application messy.

Buffy the Violet Slayer by Wet n' Wild

Buffy the Violet Slayer by Wet n’ Wild

I don’t know if you can tell in the picture or not…but some of the polish is uneven and bumpy, especially near my cuticle area. This was caused mainly by the huge and absolutely annoying brush!

Overall though, I really do like these polishes. They’re super cheap and surprisingly good quality!

XOXO,

Rosa

REVIEW: Blistex Moisture Melt

Hi Guys,

I’m sick. And I feel crummy. But that’s ok, because by being sick, I can review this amazing lip balm that I’ve been using!

You see, my lips have been extremely dry these past few days, and I’ve been using this stuff like crazy.

Blistex Moisture Melt

Blistex Moisture Melt

You can see an air bubble at the lower left corner b/c of how much I’ve used πŸ˜€

Blistex Moisture Melt

Blistex Moisture Melt

This lip balm has beads in it that it claims will “melt” into your lips and give them extra moisture. I’m not so sure if the beads actually do much though. There is shea butter and aloe in them, so I’m sure that it’s not doing any harm!

But I gotta say, this lip balm really does work! Other lip balms that I’ve used in the past have always seemed to dry my lips out even more. After putting them on, I’ll sometimes even feel like my lips are dried out and there’s just a layer of goo on top. This one doesn’t feel like that at all! And when it dries on my lips, it doesn’t leave my lips dried out either!

Oh yes, and it’s SPF 15 and it smells really good! My sister describes it as lemonade scented πŸ˜€

There are two things that I’m not liking so much about this though.

1. The applicator: It’s a round applicator that’s unlike the ones of traditional lip balms, but I feel like it just makes the product go down the sides.

Blistex Moisture Melt

Blistex Moisture Melt

The little ridges near the base (where the top is supposed to screw on at) get filled up w/ the lip balm pretty easily and I find that I have to continuously wipe it down so that the overflow doesn’t get squeezed out and get all over everything.

2. The texture: Sometimes this balm will feel a bit grainy to me. I don’t know if it’s the beads or the formula or my lips, but it feels kinda rough. This doesn’t bother me that much though, b/c as long as it’s moisturizing and not drying out my lips, I’m good πŸ˜€

Until next time,

Rosa

NOTD 2/27/13

Hey Guys, long time no post πŸ˜₯ Sorry that I’ve been so busy!

Today’s a snow day (the 3rd one so far this year, which is really surprising b/c we haven’t even had 3 snow days combined in the last couple years), so I have some time. Normally I do posts and take pictures at night, but I’m doing it in the natural light this time, so some of my pictures won’t have just a plain black background!

It’s Spirit Week at my school right now (today was supposed to be U of M vs. MSU day), and friday is always spirit day. My school’s colors are orange and black, totally halloween all over again, so I decided to do a nail look w/ those colors.

The orange color I used was from the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear line. It was a mini bottle that my sister got in a birthday party goody bag, so I have no idea what the color name is. But here’s the tiny and super cute bottle:

??? by Sally Hansen

??? by Sally Hansen

It’s .13 fl oz, but it’s lasted a super long time! The color is pretty opaque. This is what two coats looks like:

??? by Sally Hansen

??? by Sally Hansen

Note, I wasn’t too clean with the application of the polish. You can see some polish on my cuticles or surrounding skin. I guess I just got lazy or something πŸ˜‰

So, that takes care of the orange part. Now onto the black. I went w/ a black texture/shatter/crackle/whatever other names it’s called coat so that the orange would show underneath.

The texture coat I used was Black Texture (I know, totally creative name right?) by Nicole by O.P.I. I actually got this polish for only $2 at ULTA about a month ago!

Black Texture by Nicole by O.P.I

Notice my amazing pink computer in the background? My favorite color is pink πŸ˜€

Here’s the bottom of the bottle:

Black Texture by Nicole by O.P.I

So I basically put this texture coat over the orange polish and got…..

THIS! —

Orange and Black Spirit :D

Orange and Black Spirit πŸ˜€

Hmmmmmm…..The orange is turning up kinda red looking on camera, but I promise that it’s orange!

I don’t actually like using shatter/crackle/texture that much, because I feel like it always turns out uneven on my nails. I guess that’s the point, for each nail to look different, but it kinda bothers me how there’re huge chunks of black on my ring finger and only scattered bits on my middle. The other thing is, this particular texture coat shattered so quickly that I didn’t really have a chance to completely paint the nail. I kinda painted over parts that had already shattered. I guess it turned out alright though!
